Purpose vs Calling What Is the Difference and Why It Matters

2 Timothy 1:9

"...who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began"

We need to know the difference between our Purpose for God and our Calling from God.

All of us as human beings have the same Purpose, to worship and glorify God. We are all His creations and created with this Purpose in mind.

As we become believers our Purpose does not change but this is when the separation and understanding of Calling comes into play.

As believers our Calling becomes the method by which we fulfill the Purpose. This is the way we serve God.

Our Calling can change throughout our lives as God chooses a different method or way in which we fulfill this Purpose. This is why understanding our individual Calling is so important. Each of us has chosen to answer the Call in a capacity that is not for everyone. 

Being a leader is not for everyone, but that’s OK. We have chosen to taken on the Calling at a level most never will. We need to know that this requires more from us, so in turn we need to receive more from God.

We don’t stop being human. We don’t stop being susceptible to spiritual and physical exhaustion. We don’t stop being driven by our human emotions. The difference comes when we decide that we stop allowing our limitations, fears, doubts, and shortcomings to determine what we will do for God.

We should not fear the Call, we just need to know that it is already planned by God and He will provide what we need. But, have we each asked Him for what we need to accomplish this work? We are Called to do our part, and as the leaders of this church, we are Called to do it together.

God knew He would bring amazing, broken, tough, resilient, type A people together to accomplish the Calling that was prepared before any of us took our first breath.

Let that sink in for a moment.

When we realize and embrace that understanding, then we fulfill the Purpose of God by truly walking in our Calling for God as individuals and as a Team!

If it were easy, anyone would and could do it! It is difficult because then we have to give the glory to God for what He does through us!
