Leading Yourself

Many of us may say that we are not called or meant to be a leader. We think of being a leader, or leadership in general, as something that is only for other people and we would rather take a back seat to this role and focus on just living our life responsible only for ourselves. But, what if we understand that when it comes to our life in Christ we have to be a leader at some level or in some way. It needs to start within our own lives and walk with God. When we give our lives to God there is an expectation that we will live out our life in a manner that honors and submits to God, which means we have to deny many things in this world and that we must follow what He has for us. This is not a passive action that just places the leadership responsibilities on others, but must be met with intentionality on our part to “lead” our lives in a manner that honors Him.

It is true, just as in other areas of society, that there are defined roles and responsibilities within the church. From a traditional understanding of leadership, you may not be in one of these roles that places responsibility for others upon your shoulders, but the beauty of our life with God is that it goes far beyond the walls and roles inside the church. As Christians we are all called to go out and reach others with the life saving message of the Gospel. With that understanding, each one of us takes on the responsibility of leading others in a life that honors and follows God.

You and I have a calling to lead our lives in a manner that will be an example for others to follow and emulate so that we can become disciples and lead others in discipleship. Know that whether or not you fill any particular role within your work, church, or life, there is a need for you to be intentional about leading your own life for God in a manner that will allow you to be a leader for others in their walk with God.
